Good to know: Port forwarding can only be controlled through the Cogeco Wi-Fi app for customers using a F@st 3896 modem or Adtran SDG 854-v6 router. If you’re using a different model, you would need to set it up directly through the modem’s settings.

Port forwarding allows you to open specific ports in the network’s firewall that are needed by some services to communicate to devices on your network. A port has an internal and external value called the port number; multiple external hosts can use the same external port number, but each internal port must be different.

Setting up port forwarding on iOS

  1. Start by setting up IP Reservation for the desired device (see here for instructions). Once IP Reservation has been set up, the device will be listed under Reservations & Port Forwarding on the Advanced Settings page.
  2. Select the device.
  3. On the Advanced configuration screen, select Open a Port.

  4. Enter a name for the port rule.
  5. Enter the External port number the service requires.
  6. Enter the Internal port number to be used on the device.
    • Use the same number as the external to simply open the port or another number to route the traffic to a different port.
  7. Choose the required Protocol.

  8. Select Apply.
  9. Repeat these steps for each rule needed.
    • If the external port has already been used for one service, it's not necessary to set it again for a different service on the same device.
    • The external port number for each rule can be the same, but the internal port number must always be unique. This means you'll need to choose another internal port number for each local device.

    • Use the same number as the external to simply open the port or another number to route the traffic to a different port.
  8. Choose the required Protocol.

  9. Select Save.
  10. Repeat these steps for each rule needed.
    • If the external port has already been used for one service, it's not necessary to set it again for a different service on the same device.
    • The external port number for each rule can be the same, but the internal port number must always be unique. This means you'll need to choose another internal port number for each local device.
