If you have an IoT device that needs to connect through an app on your mobile device, such as a smart light bulb or door lock, you might have trouble connecting it if the IoT device is only compatible with 2.4 GHz networks. But don’t worry—IoT onboarding mode on the Cogeco Wi-Fi app will temporarily connect your mobile device to the 2.4 GHz network so that you can connect your IoT device.
Before getting started, make sure the mobile app for connecting the IoT device is up to date, since this may allow you to connect with a 5 GHz network. If the app is up to date and still requires the 2.4 GHz network, follow these steps:
- On the mobile device that you’ll be using to connect the IoT device, open the Cogeco Wi-Fi app and log in.
- Select your mobile device from the Devices page.
- The device you’re currently using should be identified with a star icon.
- Learn more about managing devices.
- The device you’re currently using should be identified with a star icon.
- Select IoT onboarding mode.
- Select Enable.
- Your device will disconnect from the 5 GHz network and reconnect to the 2.4 GHz network.
- Once it reconnects, you’ll see a timer indicating how long it will stay on 2.4 GHz before reverting to 5 GHz (up to 60 minutes).
- Open the mobile app for your IoT device and proceed with the connection.
When IoT onboarding is complete, your mobile device will revert to the 5 GHz network and your IoT device will stay connected to the 2.4 GHz network.
