How do I manage the Wi-Fi name and password for my Hitron CODA-4589 modem?

The following article covers managing the wireless network for your Hitron CODA-4589 modem, whether it’s to change your current network name (SSID) and password, or to reset them if you’ve forgotten your credentials. Good to know: If you're using Cogeco Wi-Fi Pods or extenders, the SSID and password will be managed through the Cogeco Wi-Fi app instead (see here for more information).

Finding your default network name and password

The default network name and password can be found on the sticker on the back of your modem (see below). If your modem has been Factory Reset, it'll default to these credentials.

Changing your network name and password

Your Cogeco Wi-Fi network can be managed in your modem settings by logging in through your web browser.

1. Ensure your device is connected to your network, either through Wi-Fi or by connecting directly to the modem via an Ethernet cable.
2. In your web browser, go to the address 192.168.0.1
3. At the Hitron login screen, enter the following:
   • Username: "cusadmin"
   • Password: "Cogeco1!", "password", or the current password used to join your Wi-Fi network.
4. Click on the Login button.
   
   
   
5. At the top of the screen, click on Wireless.
   
   
   
6. Enter the Network Name (SSID) of your choice for your 2.4G network.
   • Important note: This modem has Band Steering enabled by default. When this feature is enabled, the modem will automatically apply the same network name and password to the 5G network.
7. Enter the Password of your choice for your 2.4G network. Passwords must be a minimum of 8 characters in length.
8. Click the Save Changes button.
9. If you want to disable Band Steering (not recommended), open the 5G tab and select the Disabled option next to Band Steering. You can then repeat steps 6-8 to set a separate network name and password for 5G.
   
   
10. Click on your login name at the top right, and select Log out.
    

Resetting your network name and password

If you’ve forgotten the password you assigned to your wireless home network, you’ll need to reset your Wi-Fi credentials by restoring your modem to its default settings.

Good to know: If you haven't assigned a unique network name (SSID) and password, it should still be using the default credentials found on the back of the modem.

• To restore default settings, press and hold the reset button for 15 seconds.
• The reset button is in a hole on the back of the modem and can be pressed with a toothpick or other thin object.
• You can now log in using the modem's default network name and password, and customize them if desired.
