Why don’t I see the 2.4 and 5 GHz versions of my Wi-Fi network now that I use the Cogeco Wi-Fi app?

Most modems use 2 frequencies–2.4 GHz and 5 GHz–but if you manage your network through the Cogeco Wi-Fi app, you’ll only see one network listed on your devices. When you select this network, your device will automatically connect to the frequency that will give you the best performance:

  • Devices will connect to the 5 GHz network when possible since it has higher speeds and less interference, but it also has a shorter range.
  • Devices will connect to the 2.4 GHz network when they are out of range, or if the device is not compatible with 5 GHz.

Good to know: As you move through your home, your device might change to a different frequency to get a better signal. This is managed automatically by the Cogeco Wi-Fi app.
