International Direct Roaming:
While your phone may support many generations of mobile networks, the specific generations used by a foreign country must align with your phone's capabilities.
Many countries are phasing out older network bands like 2G and 3G. If you're travelling to a region where these bands are no longer available, you might need a newer phone model.
Before traveling, always verify your device's capabilities and the network technologies of your destination country to ensure uninterrupted service.
International Sponsored Roaming:
- Samsung: Some Samsung device users roaming in the US with a Telus carrier bundle (also known as Sponsored Roaming) may need to reboot their phone, depending on the model.
- iPhone: There's an ongoing issue where Voice over LTE (VoLTE) roaming doesn't work for iPhones when using sponsored roaming. This means your iPhone won't be able to roam in countries that no longer have 2G/3G networks.
Countries that currently have no 2G/3G networks include:
- Australia
- China (including Macau & Taiwan)
- Singapore
- Somalia
- St. Pierre & Miquelon (FR)
