How do I stream content when I’m not at home with TiVo?

You can stream content while away from home using the Cogeco TiVo® App (from the iOS App Store or Google Play), as long as you’re connected to the Internet. If you have a Wi-Fi connection, you can stream on either an iOS or Android device, but if you’re connected with data, you can only stream on an Android device. The Cogeco TiVo App also lets you search for shows and schedule recordings.

Setting up out-of-home streaming

Before you can stream content while away from home, you must complete the setup process while connected to your home network. Here’s how:

1. Launch and sign into the Cogeco TiVo App.
2. Select Settings, then Setup.
3. Select your streaming device of choice (if there’s more than one device on your home network, they will all appear in a list).
4. On the Streaming Setup screen, select Set up in-home streaming and Set up out-of-home streaming. Ensure the User Agreement checkbox is selected.
5. Select Start Setup. The streaming setup will begin. Select Done to complete the setup.

Streaming recordings to your iOS device

1. Launch the Cogeco TiVo App.
2. Access My Shows. Make sure the On DVR tab is selected. You will then access the complete listing of recorded shows on your TiVo PVR.
3. Select a title to view the corresponding information.
4. Tap Watch Now and then Watch on iPad/iPhone. If an option is grayed out, it means you don’t have the rights to watch that show away from home.

Streaming live TV to your iOS device

1. Launch the Cogeco TiVo App.
2. Tap the Guide button at the bottom of the screen to browse the listings.
   • In addition to scrolling, you can use the numbers on the side of the screen to skip to a range of channels.
   • Look for the streaming indicator to know whether or not the channel is available for streaming.
3. Choose a show that is currently airing, and tap the title.
4. Tap Watch Now and then choose Watch on iPad/iPhone. Your TiVo PVR will start recording the show and it will begin streaming to your mobile device immediately.
   • Some restrictions concerning the live streaming of certain shows may apply (e.g. sporting events). If this happens, you’ll see an error message: Streaming Not Permitted - This video is not permitted to stream to mobile devices outside of the home network.

Streaming recordings to your Android device

1. Launch the Cogeco TiVo app.
2. Go to My Shows. You will then gain access to the complete listing of recorded shows on your TiVo PVR.
3. Select a title to learn more about it.
4. Tap Watch, and then Watch on Phone/Tablet. If an option is grayed out, it means you don’t have the rights to watch that show away from home.

Streaming live TV to your Android device

1. Launch the Cogeco TiVo App.

About out-of-home streaming when you’re travelling outside of Canada

You can only use out-of-home streaming within Canada. If you’re planning to travel and still want to be able to watch great content on the go, you can download shows and movies to your mobile device before you leave.
