The short answer is that we’ll check that your phone is compatible before we activate your service, so you have nothing to worry about.
Here’s more info about device compatibility, and what happens to ensure your device will work on our super-reliable network across Canada.
About device compatibility:
This means whether a device can connect and work on the Cogeco network. We’re always looking for ways to support more kinds of devices, so the list of devices that are compatible with our network is updated regularly.
Note: Even if it has the right antennas or radio bands, it still might not fully work because of other technical reasons.
How your device compatibility is checked:
Whether you’re signing up for Cogeco Mobile online or over the phone with us, here’s how we make sure that your device is fully compatible with our service:
- As you’re signing up online, we’ll ask for your device’s IMEI#, which you can find by dialing *#06# on your phone’s keypad.
- As you’re signing up over the phone, we’ll ask you for some information and run a device compatibility check on our end.
Good to know: You can also check our list of compatible devices. This is handy for checking a model before you purchase it.
About the different possible compatibility levels:
There are 3 potential scenarios when it comes to your device and our network:
- You have a fully compatible device: Your device supports all key network features, including LTE data, 5G, VoLTE (Voice over LTE) calls, Wi-Fi Calling, Visual Voicemail and emergency services.
- You have a partially compatible device: Your device supports core services (voice, SMS, data) but may not support advanced features like Wi-Fi Calling or 5G. If this is the case, we will clearly explain which features are not supported, and may be able to offer alternative solutions.
- You have a non-compatible device: Your device cannot function on our network. This could be due to unsupported frequencies, outdated technology or because it is locked to another carrier. If this is the case with your device, keep in mind that it’s possible your phone just isn’t optimized to work with our network right now; but as mentioned above, we’re always making updates to support more devices, so be sure to check back often.
