Important Tips for Your Samsung Phone Setup:
We want to make sure your Cogeco Mobile experience is seamless. Here are a few extra tips for setting up your Samsung phone:
- Always Update to the Latest OS: For the best performance, security, and network compatibility, we recommend always keeping your phone updated to the latest available OS version. Software updates often include important carrier settings and bug fixes that can improve your mobile data, calling, and messaging services.
- Dual SIM Users – A Quick Step: If your Samsung phone uses two SIM cards, please ensure you select your Cogeco SIM when you go into your settings to configure the APN.
- No Need to Fill Everything: When you're entering the settings, you'll see some fields that say things like "Not set," "None," or "Unspecified." You can leave these blank or as they are – no need to update them! Also, the "MCC" and "MNC" fields will usually fill themselves in automatically.
- Activating Your Data APN: After you save your "Cogeco" (data) APN, you'll be taken back to the "Access Point Names" screen. Make sure to tap the circle next to the "Cogeco" APN to select it and make it active for your internet connection.
- MMS (Picture Messaging) APN: After saving your "Cogeco MMS" settings, you'll also go back to the "Access Point Names" screen. For MMS, there's no need to select this APN; it will work automatically in the background.
- Heads Up on MMS: Sometimes, it can take up to an hour for picture and video messages (MMS) to start working perfectly after you've set everything up. Please test it after a little while, and if you're still having trouble, give us a call!
Heads up: Network reset risk for older Androids
If your Samsung phone is running on a version older than Android 16 (One UI 8), please be aware that travelling internationally (outside the US or Mexico) will cause all network settings (APN, VoLTE, 5G) to reset upon your return. You would then need to manually set them up to avoid service disruptions, such as failed calls or falling back to 3G speeds. We highly recommend updating to Android 16 (One UI 8) before any international travel to ensure seamless return and optimal service.
Setup steps for Samsung phones on Android 16 (One UI 8):
With Android 16 (One UI 8), your phone simplifies setup by automatically configuring all correct network settings (APNs) once your Cogeco Mobile SIM card is installed. This includes setting the preferred network to 5G and enabling essential services like VoLTE, MMS (picture messaging), and personal hotspot.
- Verify your network settings
After your phone has restarted, let's make sure everything is configured correctly.
- To check your Network Mode and VoLTE settings:
- Navigate to: Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks.
- Confirm that Network mode is set to 5G preferred.
- Ensure VoLTE calls Cogeco is toggled on.
- If your settings are incorrect, simply tap on Network Mode to select 5G preferred, and then toggle VoLTE to the ON position.
- To check your APN settings:
- Navigate to: Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Access Point Names.
- Confirm that you can see both Cogeco Internet and Cogeco MMS on the list.
- What if my APN settings are missing? Don't worry. If the Cogeco settings are not visible, you may need to add them manually. Please follow the instructions in Step 2 of the "Set-up steps for Samsung phones on Android 15 (One UI 7)" guide.

If not go to: Messaging App > Click on the Account top right corner of the screen > Messages Settings > Scroll down to advanced and click on it > toggle Auto-download MMS. (You can also toggle Auto-download MMS when roaming.)
- No APN screen showing? Please confirm that your phone is unlocked and compatible with your Cogeco SIM. (Usually a device bought outside of Canada)
