Why should I take steps to secure my wireless network?

Wireless networks may be more convenient than wired networks, but if they aren't properly secured, they can be more vulnerable. This is because wireless networks use signals that can pass through walls and can travel beyond the limits of your home or business. If you don't secure your network, Wi-Fi signals may be detected and intercepted by anyone within range, potentially giving people access to your Internet connection or your network without your knowledge or consent.

Cogeco’s modem is configured by default with customized security measures, greatly decreasing the chance of any unauthorized access. Also, the technician who installed your modem originally took measures to secure your wireless network. Therefore, you should keep in mind that any changes you make to your Cogeco Wi-Fi settings may impact the security of your network.

One thing you can do to secure your wireless network is to change your password from the default one assigned to your modem. This will help protect your network from unauthorized access.
