When installing an IoT device, such as a smart light bulb or door lock, you might be prompted to connect it through an app or website since the device itself doesn’t have a way for you to select your Wi-Fi network.
Your IoT device should come with instructions for the setup, but it will usually involve visiting a site or installing an app and then entering the device’s serial number. The site or app will allow you to select an SSID and enter a password and then send that information to the IoT device so that it can connect on its own after that.
If your network name or password ever change, you’ll need to use the site or app again to update the credentials.
Good to know: Some IoT devices are only compatible with 2.4 GHz networks so you may not be able to connect if your mobile device is connecting to the 5 GHz network. In this case, you can contact technical support to put your network in 2.4 GHz mode temporarily while you connect the IoT device.
